Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has said that the government made a historic decision by announcing the date of local polls.
“The government has taken a historic decision. The election will be held in a single phase across the country,” the PM told media persons after the meeting of the Council of Ministers late this evening. “Election is the compulsory alterative for safeguarding all agendas and implementation of constitution for the functioning of democracy,” the PM added.

He also added that the government has decided to increase the local-level units in Tarai-Madhes and mountainous region on the basis of population and stated that the move would pave the way for conducting the poll.
Expressing his commitment to proceed with the constitution amendment proposal tabled in the parliament on Tuesday, the PM shared that the process to form the federal commission would be initiated.
The PM was of the confidence that consensus of all would be forged and the Madhes-centric parties also would be brought on board the election process.
